NPC Guide for the Liminal Fields
Adventurers are the movers and shakers in the Liminal Fields - it is through their actions that exploration is made and the lands are, bit by bit, conquered. Behind the walls of Llewin Moth, however, representatives of the 7 Nations of Darteia provide support, supplies, and guidance for adventurers looking for their next movement. For instance, you might find. . .
Father Falken -Cleric, found at The Monolatry
Provides: Healing, divine casting, boarding for certain character types, wisdom and advice.
Father Falken is a good-hearted man with a face that is almost 90% eyebrows. Like most Malingian clerics, he maintains a strict healthcare regimen, and a well-used set of plate mail and a shield are set in a place of prominence in his office. No longer fit to serve in the field, he has retired to Llewin Moth to provide advice, the occasional advanced healing spell, and board to those members of the Malingian faith who require it.
Xur Toralzen - Bucham Brotherhood Wizard, found in his tower
Provides: Arcane spells and scrolls on commission, advice, research services, some arcane components.
Xur Toralzen is an orcish Bucham Brotherhood wizard who has attained the rank of Master. Curiously, he has built his tower far from the boundaries of the Brotherhood itself, seeking ancient and abandoned knowledge out in the Liminal Fields rather than in libraries and museums. The township of Llewin Moth is called Xur’s Toybox back home, as the mage is clearly using this experiment to engage in risky practices that a wiser mage would avoid. Absolutely rake-thin with a preponderance of purple robes, Xur stays isolated in his tower, except those who can solve the riddle that seals his tower (or pay him 5 gold for his consultations).
Khetgreth Silverchin - Captain of the Bulwark, found at The Guardhouse
Provides: security to the town, repair services, and boarding for military characters
Khetgreth Silverchin is a non-binary dwarven captain of the guard. A stellar service record in the Louthian Legions has led to their appointment over this prestigious experimental Bulwark. They run their small coterie of soldiers here with a discipline verging on the paranoid, and their equipment is always in perfect working order. The town’s lack of a dedicated smithy means that the Guardhouse is the only place to repair equipment that may become damaged, which Silverchin begrudgingly offers to adventurers. . . for a cost. They keep order in the town, and more than a few citizens of Llewin Moth have awoken with a pounding headache inside the cells of the Guardhouse.
Kailin McQueeni - Innkeeper, found at the Fox and Fire Inn
Provides: food and drink of varying qualities, boarding, and carousing and entertainment opportunities.
A half-elven innkeeper, originally from Flokenthia with a long life and the laugh lines to show for it, Kailin McQueeni’s inn is a space of warmth and comfort in the Fields. Her three boys, Horas, Peidras, and Lute, a trio of adopted Flokenthian halflings, help her run the inn, even as they seem almost perpetually on the verge of destroying it. They do excellent work with the limited supplies available, and trade often with the other businesses in town. They use a rotating menu of three levels: the Copper Menu is mostly rabbit and mutton dishes, The Silver Platter nets poultry options, and The Golden Platter provides beef or other local game. In addition, they have a gift for frying cheese curds, and making a very soft brie over the course of several weeks, so it often goes for a high price. Rooms are also available, warm and secure, if somewhat spartan in appearance.
Beathan Mallaigh - Farmer and druid, found just outside of town.
Provides: Food for the town and a very small supply of healing potions when possible.
Energetic in the extreme and recognizable at a distance due to her huge wide-brimmed hat, this elf from Granland has taken on a tremendous task in bringing her clan and skills out to the Liminal Fields. Red-haired and freckled in the extreme, Beathan and her fellow farmers produce most of the food that the town subsists on. Beathan also scours the nearby woods for herbs and other medicinal plants, which has resulted in a bubbling pot of healing concoctions that seems to almost perpetually be brewing. Close friends with the rangers, the farmers spend time haggling in town, but only the most dangerous of circumstances can force them inside the walls of Llewin Moth.
Orias Threal - General Store owner, found at Orias’ Onslaught of Goods
Provides: General supplies and equipment as often as he can, including rations, torches, and other adventuring gear.
Orias is an adventurous spirit with a huge, well-manicured mustache and an even larger family back home that they are supporting. Warm-hearted but savvy as a businessman, Orias operates with the famous Aegis Authority seal of approval, and keeps his shop clean and organized, even if it isn’t as full as one would hope. Given to gab about his many wives and partners back home in the city of Watch, most weeks he has the supplies necessary to travel out into the Liminal Fields and perhaps return safely. Rumor also has it that, in exchange for a fair amount of coin, things required by adventurers but not sold in stores can sometimes be added to his shipments without appearing on any official books.
Welvlyn Strink - Crimson Tide representative and connection to the world outside the fields, found at The Flowpoint
Provides: ordering of extra supplies, communication with outside world, and passage to any of the other nations
Strink is a drow, officious and bureaucratic, and a bit pudgy, who has a commission from The Crimson Tide, merchanteers and regulators of The Quiet World on behalf of the kingdom of Yeowenia. Every person in Llewin Moth arrived here first via the great underground steamships that The Crimson Tide uses to travel around the continent quickly and safely. Strink is hard to get along with, on the best of days, but they can order supplies in bulk from the outside world, or other equipment otherwise not available in town. They also can book passage for characters who need to return home, although this cost is prohibitive in the extreme.
Velavia Vixen - Ranger of the Aegis Authority, found in the camp outside town.
Provides: Intel and rumors of the Liminal Fields.
Outrider Velavia Vixen, a well-built and sly hobgoblin and her team are responsible for scouting and patrolling the closer territories of Llewin Moth. Although they do not delve deep into territories, they bring back game when possible for dispatch to the Fox and Fire Inn. More importantly, they can be Caroused with in Downtime to provide clues and rumors to the different regions that they have patrolled. They are a small, but close-knit crew, but Vixen longs for the hustle and bustle of her hometown, and so spends the days she can in Llewin Moth, trading stories and occasionally embellishing her already impressive accomplishments.
